Barbara Walters picked Gen. David Petraeus as the most fascinating person of the year.
Walters revealed Petraeus as the top pick on her annual 10 Most Fascinating People special Thursday. Walters called Petraeus, the commander of the U.S. military forces in Afghanistan, a "true American hero."
"In life, it seems, there are people who break things and people who fix them. This man is a fixer, "Walters said. "A lot depends on General Petraeus and his combination of humanity and strength."
For the past five years, Walters has chosen a woman for the No. 1 slot. Michelle Obama took the honor in 2009, and she was preceded by Tina Fey (2008), J.K. Rowling (2007), Nancy Pelosi (2006) and Camilla Parker Bowles (2005).
Another previously unannounced name on Walters' list was Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. He and Petraeus joined Justin Bieber, Sandra Bullock, LeBron James, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Middleton, Sarah Palin, Betty White and the cast of Jersey Shore.
What do you think of Petraeus as the top pick?
