New Amazon Prime Video TV Shows and Movies in July 2026

Prime Video in July is all about the ladies. The month kicks off with one of the streamer's biggest new releases of the year in Elle, a prequel to Reese Witherspoon's Legally Blonde that follows a young Elle Woods as she breaks boundaries by wearing pink in a 1990s Seattle high school (and doing all the other things that help people not judge a book by its cover). There's also the action buddy comedy Ride or Die, which stars Octavia Spencer as a woman who discovers her best friend (Hannah Waddingham) is a professional assassin. And if Prime Video seems a little more chatty in July, it's because it's bringing on all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls following the cult series' departure from Netflix.

The best new shows and movies on Prime Video in July

Elle Season 1 (July 1)

The 2001 comedy Legally Blonde doesn't seem like the kind of movie that was clamoring for a TV spin-off, but the demand for familiar IP and nostalgia for the 1990s means Prime Video is delivering Elle, a prequel series following the stereotype-shattering Elle Woods and her indomitable determination through her high school years. Whereas the movie Elle (played by Reese Witherspoon) fended off dumb blonde jokes from uppity Harvard Law School preppies, this Elle, played by newcomer Lexi Minetree, is defending her think pink mentality from grunge kids in 1990s Seattle, helping to maintain the franchise's fish-out-of-water theme. A similar formula worked for Netflix and Wednesday — just swap indefatigable optimism for morbid pessimism — which Witherspoon cites as an inspiration for Elle. [Trailer]

Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-7 (July 1)

There was a big brouhaha over Netflix's decision to move on from hosting all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls after a 12-year partnership that included an original revival series, but fear not, parasocial citizens of Stars Hollow! The chatterbox mother-daughter duo of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore (Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, respectively) are landing on Prime Video as soon as the series leaves Netflix. The cult comedy still has remarkable cachet these days, if my friend's reaction to giving him a Gilmore Girls advent calendar last year is any indication. But you have to feel for Hulu, which is grumpily sitting in the corner while all this Netflix and Prime Video news comes out and screaming, "Helllllo!? We've been streaming Gilmore Girls since 2024!"    

Ride or Die Season 1 (July 15)

In this action-comedy — one of Prime Video's favorite genres — the all-too-familiar trope of someone learning their bestie is an assassin is on full display when Debbie (Octavia Spencer) discovers her gal pal Judith (Hannah Waddingham) kills people for a living, forcing the two to go on the run in Europe while being chased by bad guys.
