Lindsay Lohan may soon join the ranks of Madonna and Prince. (No, not musically.) According to one report, her mom says the 24-year-old actress has decided to nix her last name.

"Lindsay is dropping the Lohan and just going by Lindsay," Dina Lohan told Popeater.com on Friday, adding that she and Ali, Lindsay's younger sister, will also change their surnames to Sullivan, Dina's maiden name.

Michael Lohan formally charged with domestic violence

No official reason for the name change was given, but the decision comes less than a week after Lindsay's father, Michael Lohan, was charged with assaulting his girlfriend. Michael and Dina divorced in 2007, the same year Lindsay was arrested on drunk driving charges.

Lindsay remains on probation from her 2007 drunken driving case and was sent to jail twice last year for violating it, which requires her to obey all laws and submit to random drug tests. Riverside County prosecutors are currently considering charging Lohan with battery for a December altercation with a Betty Ford Center employee. She was ordered to go to rehab for three months after she admitted to failing a drug test in September.

Lindsay Lohan rejects plea deal; will stand trial

The Mean Girlsstar is also awaiting trial on a felony grand theft charge — where she is accused of walking out with a $2,500 necklace from a Venice, Calif., jewelry store — after turning down a plea deal that would have involved jail time.

Lohan's attorney did not reply to a request for comment.
