Matt's Picks: May 9-12

Glee (Tuesday, 8/7c, Fox)
Don't expect a firestorm like in the classic Carrie, but the battle for prom queen and king intensifies as our singing heroes provide musical background for the school dance. In other musical news Tuesday night, NBC's new hit The Voice moves to its new time period (10/9c) for several weeks as it moves into the "battle" phase of the competition. With help from even more celebrity mentors, including Reba McEntire for Blake Shelton's team and Monica for Cee Lo Green's, the individual teams prepare for head-to-head singoffs, with the team leader forced to choose which one will stay. Once each team is down to four singers, cue the live competition, when America gets to weigh in.

The Good Wife (Tuesday, 10/9c, CBS)
This week it's Kalinda's turn to face the wrath of a wronged Alicia. Now that she's sent her husband Peter packing, Alicia confronts her former best work friend over the one-night infidelity, rattling the stylish investigator to the core, to the point that she considers leaving the firm. Adultery also figures into the case of the week, with Sarah Silverman making a rare dramatic guest turn as the owner of an adultery web site that gets sued when one of its users is murdered. Also on the guest list: Mamie Gummer (formerly of Off the Map) as wily prosecutor Nancy Crozier.

Community (Thursday, 8/7c, NBC)
This year's paintball season finale is so epic it took two episodes to finish. Part two concludes with the Greendale team uniting against what series creator Dan Harmon calls "an unstoppable juggernaut, so it feels like Star Wars." Nothing would surprise me where Community is concerned. The second season has been an anything-goes delight. Later in NBC's comedy lineup, The Office (9/8c) presents a scenario I hoped I'd never live to see: Dwight taking command of the Scranton branch as acting manager, applying his usual dictatorial charm. And Parks and Recreation (9:30/8:30c) presents back-to-back episodes. In the first, Leslie and Ann have their first-ever fight, while Tom peddles his "Snake Juice" liquor at the Snakehole Lounge. In the second, Chris sends Leslie and Ben on a road trip to Indianapolis. Will their feelings for each other be unleashed by leaving the office? Raise your hands if you vote yes.

The Vampire Diaries (Thursday, 8/7c, The CW)
Don't the people of Mystic Falls ever just stay home and watch TV at night? In the second-season finale, capping a most eventful series of supernatural events, a public screening of Gone With the Wind in the town square triggers Civil War-era flashbacks of Katherine for Damon, who's still struggling with his feelings for Elena. Frankly, fans do give a damn as (as the CW puts it) "more than one life hangs in the balance as the consequences of the sacrifice ritual play out." An hour later, on the finale of bubble show Nikita — fingers crossed for its return — Division boss Percy makes a play to take over the CIA, while Alex goes rogue, and Michael and Nikita are in their usual state: mortal danger.
