Over the spring of 2000, 16 average Americans, divided into two tribes which eventually merge into one, were sequestered on the deserted island of Pulau Tiga for 39 days. For their stay, they must learn to live as a tribe, although eventually, it is everyone for themselves. They compete in challenges for "luxuries" (a barbecue, a phone call home, etc.) and immunity. Every three days, the losers of the latter challenges must face tribal council, where they will account for their actions by voting one person off of the island. At the end of Day 39, only one survivor will be left, and will leave the island with one million dollars. Based on the Swedish game show, "Operation Robinson."

CBS' Fall 2014 Schedule: Big Bang and More Move, Half Men to End, HIMYD Dead

CBS is shaking up its schedule this fall. The Big Bang Theory is moving to Mondays at 8/7c while the network airs NFL Thursday Night Football. But starting on Oct. 30, The Big Bang will return to Thursdays at 8/7c. That same week will also see the series debut of new comedyThe McCarthys and the premiere of Two and a Half Men's final season, which will air Thursdays at 9/8c.  Other shows moving to new nights are NCIS: Los Angeles, which will head to Mondays at 10/9c, following new drama Scorpion; The Amazing Race, which will shift to Fridays at 8/7c to make way for Tea Leoni's Madam Secretary on Sundays at 8/7c; and CSI, which will relocate to Sundays at 10/9c and split the timeslot with new spin-off CSI: Cyber.

New Survivor Cast Includes Miami Marlins President, Ex-NFL Cheerleader, Former NBA All-Star

Survivor hits the beach this February for its 28th season, pitting 18 brand-new castaways against each other in a Brains vs. Beauty vs. Brawn twist. The CBS reality staple returns to the Cagayan province of the Philippines and is the first season without any returning players since 2012's One World. Although the contestants are split into three distinct groups, each tribe contains a player with a significant sports background. David Samson, current president of the Miami Marlins Major League Baseball team, will compete on the Brains Tribe, while former NBA star Cliff Robinson, who spent the majority of his 18-year career playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, joins the Brawn Tribe. Morgan McLeod, 21, a member of the Beauty Tribe, was selected to the San Francisco 49ers cheerleading squad when she was still in high school. A professional poker player, horse trainer, nuclear engineer and two police officers are also featured in this year's cast. Reality TV's Growing Pains: What Will It Take to Find The Next Big Hit?

It's time for a reality-TV reality check. Even top executives and producers admit that the genre has become tired — an overload of singing battles, food challenges, screaming housewives and dating competitions. "We've been in a huge reality drought," says Greg Goldman, the new president of Studio Lambert USA, which produces Undercover Boss.The broadcast networks continue to coast on the enduring success of veteran franchises like Survivor, but they're not minting many new hits. In cable, the success of docuseries like the Real Housewives franchise and Love & Hip Hop has led to a glut of such shows.But a shake-up may finally be on the way. CBS recently named a new head of reality TV, Chris Castallo, while Fox is looking to fill the top job in its alternative department (which infamous reality kingpin Mike Darnell vacated at the end of July). There's also a new head of unscripted TV at AMC, while TruTV and A&E, both big reality networks, have new bosses.

How Will CBS' Under the Dome Differ from Stephen King's Novel?

On Big Brother, Survivor and The Real World, producers stick the contestants in a virtual fishbowl to find out what happens, well, when people stop being polite and start getting real. CBS' Under the Dome is essentially the same premise, except that in this case, the fishbowl is literal and the show is fictional, based on the novel by Stephen King. It's the residents of Chester's Mill, an ordinary small town, who find themselves trapped under a dome of unknown proportions with no hope of escape.
