Question: After finishing Saturday's season finale of Orphan Black, many thoughts come to mind, but the most obvious is that if Tatiana Maslany doesn't walk away with the Emmy for best actress — or is it five nominations in the best supporting actress category? — then the people who vote just aren't watching TV. Every character she plays has such varied distinction from hair, voice, even walks, and other minor mannerisms and played them all with a determination like it was her only character. It might have been easy to phone one or two in and at times you could forget it all one person. Matt, I know you enjoy the show, but I was curious: Did you ever at any time find yourself picking a favorite? I think mine came to be Alison, because while they all have a dark side, the one who seemed to be the most sunshine and light was probably the darkest of all with a heavy dose of comedy thrown in. Tony Shalhoub Joins CBS Comedy
Tony Shalhoub has joined the cast of CBS' untitled comedy, formerly called The Ex-Men, TV Line reports. The project, from How I Met Your Mother executive producer Rob Greenberg, stars Chris Smith as a man who moves into short-term housing populated mainly by divorced men after being left at the altar. Shalhoub will play Frank, a four-time divorcé who's a self-proclaimed ladies' man. Question: I was just watching Human Target, and as someone who lives in San Francisco, I was wondering how often shows are actually shot on location and what are the factor conditions. I get a San Francisco vibe from Human Target, which I didn't get from Monk. Both Dexter and Burn Notice take place in Miami, but I usually get more of a Los Angeles vibe from Dexter. Many shows have episodes that take place at universities and I swear I am always looking at the UCLA campus.

Most years, the best we can hope for from an Emmy night is a few new winners and a few (arguably, as always) correct winners. This year, the probability for fresh blood at the winners' podium is especially high, given what a terrific season it was for freshman series. NBC Silences Monk (on NBC), Sees No Future for Psych (on NBC)
Mere hours after last night's Nielsens came in, NBC revealed a slate which drops Monk and Psych from the network's Sunday lineup. (The Tony Shalhoub starrer had dropped 28 percent from its previous NBC airing, while Psych didn't even break four million viewers.) Well, we kinda knew Monk couldn't go too long without an analyst, right? So, tragic as is the April 8 death of Stanley Kamel — aka the neurotic's Dr. Kroger — a USA Network spokesperson confirms to me exclusively that Hector Elizondo has been tapped to join Monk as Tony Shalhoub's new shrink. There's no word on how his character will be introduced, but he'll first turn up in the show's seventh season premiere on July 18.On a related note, Elizondo's hiring would seem to signal that CBS' Cane is a goner. So what's your take, peeps? Will you have a harder time adjusting to seeing Monk on someone else's couch than he'll have being on someone else's couch? Monk's Stanley Kamel Found Dead at Age 65
Stanley Kamel, who played Dr. Charles Kroger on the USA series Monk, has died. He was 65.Access Hollywood reports that he was found in his Hollywood Hills home by his agents. Sources say Kamel suffered a heart attack.Kamel appeared in numerous TV roles over the past three decades, including as Rebecca Gayheart's father on Beverly Hills, 90210.A network representative said, "USA is deeply saddened by the news of Stanley Kamel’s passing. USA Network has announced that Monk will return this summer for a seventh season that will anchor an aggressive slate of new programming for the NBC-owned cable network. "You might say we were obsessed with making this deal," Jeff Wachtel, USA's executive vice president of original programming, quips, alluding to star Tony Shalhoub's obsessive-compulsive character. "It's not easy to wash your hands of a show like Monk."But will the seventh season be the show's last? "We have to be thinking of that," Wachtel says. Monk: Why USA's Quirky Detective Will Lighten Your Mood
The when: Fridays at 9 pm/ET on USA NetworkWhy watch?: The introspective detective is back on the job for the second half of Monk's sixth season. Tony Shalhoub (see related Q&A here) plays Adrian Monk, the eagle-eyed and obsessive-compulsive investigator with fears galore (dirt, asymmetry, heights, pretty much everything), whose sharp mind still fingers the right culprit every time. Add to that his wife Trudy's mysterious and haunting death 10 years ago and you've got one complex crime-fighter. But don't get your tissues out yet. That's the question that Entourage has been asking during its fourth season, which began with prettyboy movie star Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) on the set of the violent Spanish-language film about drug lord Pablo Escobar. "We'll get lots of answers," promises exec producer Doug Ellin. The season finale was shot on location at the Cannes Film Festival last May. "Scenes took place live during the Ocean's Thirteen premiere, so our guys had to get their lines down while crowds were screaming." Post-finale, Entourage goes on hiatus until June. And then? Forgive me for being a few days late with this, but I've been very busy in LA this week. I had planned to do it before I left, but had so many other things on the go that I didn't get around to it.I'll keep this short - my pick of the week for June 26 is Psych season 1.
