This documentary, part of the Investigative Reports cable television series on the A&E network, explores the world of the camera inside the courtroom. This episode, narrated by Investigative Reports host and producer Bill Kurtis, examines how television and other media outlets have affected some major trials in this country. One side claims that they have a First Amendment right to publicize these trials and court cases. The other side claims that the influence of the media, whether positive or negative, has an ill effect on the defendants getting a fair trial. There are interviews with lawyers and legal advocates on both sides of this argument, in addition to talks with some criminals whose trials were publicized in the media, including Pamela Smart, the woman who convinced her 15-year-old lover to kill her husband.
