With the help of her landlady, Mrs. Madrigal (Olympia Dukakis), Mary Ann begins to settle in with her new family and soon finds herself drawn to her boss' son-in-law, Beauchamp (Thomas Gibson). Meanwhile, another resident, Mona, invites her gay friend Michael to live with her.
