Season 16 of the reality show is once again hosted by Phil Keoghan and features 11 couples racing around the world to win the final prize: $1,000,000. Among the contestants are former "Big Brother" house-guests Jordan Lloyd and Jeff Schroeder, professional bull rider Cord McCoy and both the youngest and oldest contestants in the show's history: 20-year-old Caite Upton and 71-year-old Jody Kelly. During the season the couples travel 40,000 miles across five continents, including a stop in Chile right as it's hit by an earthquake.

The 16th edition of the reality series begins in Los Angeles with 11 teams navigating the city's busy streets to find public transportation to the airport, where they will board a flight to Chile. One team is eliminated from the race.

The 10 remaining teams travel by bus to Puerto Varas, Chile, where they must choose between dressing a llama, or donning a condor costume and flying into chilly waters to retrieve a clue. Next, the pairs visit a farm and collect ingredients for a cake. One team is eliminated.

The nine remaining teams travel from Chile to Argentina, but one pair end up in an emergency room before they depart. In Argentina, the duos must rope a steer's horns and then choose between locating hidden treasure in a field or playing polo on a wooden horse.

The teams travel to Hamburg, Germany, where they bungee jump. Next, the duos choose between kicking soccer balls through targets or eating a plate of sauerkraut. Then the pairs visit a bar to drink a boot full of beer before retracing the early days of the Beatles.

The teams travel from Germany to France, where they take part in a World War I reenactment that requires them to either translate a message in Morse code or crawl on a battlefield to retrieve a note while being attacked from the air and on the ground. Next, the duos must ride bicycles four miles to the pit stop.

The teams race in France, where they visit a winery and rappel more than 100 feet into a cavern to locate a bottle of champagne. Next, the duos choose between finding a cluster of specially marked grapes in a vineyard or stacking 680 champagne glasses into a tower and filling them with the sparkling wine. One team travels to the wrong city to complete a Detour, and one pair use duct tape to repair their damaged car.

The teams fly from France to the island nation of Seychelles in the Indian Ocean, where they must choose between luring a giant tortoise across a field with a banana or delivering an ox-drawn cart full of coconuts to a merchant. Next, the duos search for a message in a bottle under the sea that provides information on the location of the pit stop.

The teams travel from Seychelles to Malaysia, where they must choose between a 153-step climb or balancing a traditional Chingay flagpole on their heads to receive a clue.

The teams travel from Malaysia to Singapore, where they encounter a Fast Forward and a U-Turn. The duos choose between learning a drum routine or selling ice cream on the street to earn a clue. Later, they count links in a massive chain at a shipyard and go down a zip line at an amusement park.

The teams race in Shanghai and must complete two Road Blocks. In the first, one team member must make one kilogram of handmade noodles. Next, the other teammate is required to assemble a giant 96-piece puzzle in a windy sports stadium. The duos also visit the city's fashion district and assemble clothes from a sketch and give them to a model to wear to earn a clue.

The final four teams continue to race in Shanghai. At a Detour, the duos count hundreds of golden Buddhas. Later, to earn a clue, the teams choose between finding a pair of engraved stamps or delivering pork dumplings through a crowded market. At the pit stop, one team is eliminated.

In the season finale, the final three teams travel from Shanghai to San Francisco, where they must scale the Coit Tower and participate in a virtual "Star Wars" battle before racing to the finish line for the $1 million top prize.
