Hasbro's expansion into television continues Saturday night with the official series premiere of Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters, an new animated series produced by the toy giant for The Hub network. (The show had a sneak preview last month, but officially kicks off Saturday at 8/7c.) A cross between Yu-Gi-Oh! and Avatar: The Last Airbender, Kaijudo features a world where mythical beasts have been banished to a parallel dimension and must be kept at bay in order to keep the peace on Earth.
The series follows a young boy, Ray (voiced by Party of Five and V alum Scott Wolf) who joins the Duel Masters ranks, learning to summon and control the beasts and help protect the planet. Of course, being a teenager, he has a bit of a rebellious spirit, much to the chagrin of the elder Duel Masters.
The voice cast also includes Freddy Rodriquez (Six Feet Under, Ugly Betty) and animation vets Phil LaMarr, Grey DeLisle and John DiMaggio. Israeli actor Oded Fehr, best known for the Mummy movies and frequent TV guest roles, including Covert Affairs, plays the villainous Choten, seen in this exclusive image taming a Rumbling Terrasaur.
