Summer is quickly approaching and that means MTV is about to throw the first of its two big award shows -- the MTV Movie and Television Awards.

The only thing more iconic than the golden popcorn statuettes that get handed out to the winners is the Best Kiss category. The award has led to some outrageous bits in the past -- like Seth Rogen making out with his "mom" in 2014 -- but also some sweet examples of true love that have been stamped into the pop-culture zeitgeist. It's the award that everyone looks forward to, even more than Best Movie or Best TV Show.

In honor of the ceremony, which was taped Saturday night but will be broadcast Monday on MTV, we're counting down the best Best Kiss winners in history. So grab your chapstick and let's do this.

5. Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen (Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby)

The beauty of MTV award shows is that they are supposed to be fun, so of course comedians Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen took it to the next level when they won for their game of tonsil hockey in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. It's funny (until it gets awkward) because they keep their faces mashed together for an extremely long time -- like longer than a Family Guy extended bit amount of time.

4. Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman (Step Up 2: The Streets)

The key to a good Best Kiss acceptance speech is passion and few have had more passion than when Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman sucked face after their win, in 2008. It started out awkward, with Rob kissing around Briana's face, but then the two got into it for a memorable make-out session, proving why they deserved that gold popcorn over their competition.

3. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Taylor Lautner (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse)

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are the most prolific winners of the Best Kiss category, winning four years in a row for their run in the Twilight series. However, Pattinson decided to switch things up for their third win, in 2011, when he decided not to go with his and Kristen's almost kiss bit. Instead, he jumped into the audience and planted one on co-star Taylor Lautner in a moment that sent the audience -- and the fans at home -- into a giant frenzy.

2. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions)

MTV has a long history of celebrating the LGBT community, especially with regards to the Best Kiss award. That began when Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair won the award for their legendary, sensual kiss in Cruel Intentions. They were nominated the same year as Hilary Swank and Chloe Sevigny for Boys Don't Cry and paved the way for breakthrough winners Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger, in 2006, for Brokeback Mountain, and last year's golden popcorn for Moonlight stars Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome.

1. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams (The Notebook)

Despite the many worthy couples on this list, every time the Best Kiss Award is mentioned, only one moment really comes to mind: Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams winning for The Notebook, in 2005. The two recreated their iconic rain kiss on stage, and it was all the more epic because they were dating in real life. It was a beautiful "oh, this is what love is" kind of moment. Even though the two eventually broke up, we'll always have this memory in pop culture history.

The MTV Movie and Television Awards air Monday at 9/8c on MTV.
