Midnight Rider Director, Producer Turn Themselves In After Involuntary Manslaughter Indictment

Randall Miller and Jody Savin, the director and producer of Gregg Allman biopic MidnightRider, have surrendered to authorities in Georgia after being indicted for involuntary manslaughter in the on-set death of camera assistant Sarah Jones in February, according toThe Hollywood Reporter.

Miller and Savin turned themselves in on Sunday, 10 days after being indicted by a grand jury on charges of involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespassing. They both subsequently posted bail and were released, THR reports. Executive producer Jay Sedrish was also named in the indictment. They each face up to 10 years in prison for the involuntary manslaughter charges and up to 12 months for criminal trespassing.

Jones, 27, was killed, and six other crew members were injured on Feb. 20, when a freight train crashed into the group while they were filming a dream sequence on a historic train trestle over the Altamaha River in Doctortown, Ga. Jones was struck by the train and by pieces of metal that flew from a prop bed that had been placed on the tracks. In April, the National Council on Occupational Safety and Health released a report in which it called her death "preventable."

Miller, Savin and Sedrish, along with other producers and production companies, also face several civil suits in relation to Jones' death.

The movie is now in limbo, with star William Hurt announcing in April that he was dropping out of the project.
