Colin Donnell Says Chicago Med Hasn't 'Closed the Door' on a Connor Return

We could see him again!

Chicago Med fans are in for a little bit of heartbreak when the show returns for Season 5, as Connor (Colin Donnell) will make his official exit in the season premiere.

When we left him in the Season 4 finale, Connor was struggling with the death of his father and the possibility that Ava (Norma Kuhling) was the one to kill him with an insulin overdose. Unfortunately, that doesn't make a great ending for his character, so Donnell's actual final episode will be the Season 5 premiere. According to Donnell though, we shouldn't count out a guest appearance or two in the future.

"It was an emotional couple of days shooting, saying a lot of goodbyes to a very close-knit family there, but it was really nice to do it, and it was a great way to wrap up this chapter of what that character is," Donnell told TV Guide at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "We haven't closed the door firmly on a return or an appearance in the future, but there is a lot of things that are wrapped up in that episode."

Donnell also posted a touching message on Instagram the day after he finished shooting the show, admitting that he was "crying like a baby" all through filming his final episode. "Last night I said goodbye to Connor Rhodes," Donnell wrote. "This isn't a spoiler just one of the few photos from the last couple days in which I was not crying like a baby. This cast, this crew, this show have all left an indelible mark upon me. Now excuse me while I go back to scrolling through photos and smile crying on this plane.

Chicago Med returns Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 8/7c on NBC.
