In Cambodia, Haworth is a French girl raised by a native family that found her wandering in the forest. Now she is readying to marry Vanny, her foster brother, but this dream is dashed when the government tells her that her real brother, Ruhl, has been searching for her all these years. The Japanese had attacked their family's plantation in 1943, which led to her sojourn in the woods. Ruhl wants nothing but his sister's love, a desire he sacrifices his entire life for. Soon this need grows into a physical passion that frightens the girl. Vanny comes to help her and together they run off, with Ruhl pursuing in his car. The two young people hide in the forest, and Ruhl is killed when his car skids and goes off the road in a fiery crash.
