Day's last picture before going on to her successful TV series. She plays a widowed owner of a lumberyard with three sons and a sheepdog; Keith is a widower with a daughter and a French poodle. Brought together at a party by inveterate matchmaker Carroll, Day's sister, Keith and Day are embarrassed by the forced encounter. Meeting again by accident at an all-night market, the two fall in love and elope. On their return, they find that their respective offspring are constantly at odds and that even their dogs hate one another. Keith buys a recreational vehicle so that he and his bride can have some privacy, but their families' disputes provoke an argument between them and she drives off, inadvertently dumping Keith from the vehicle clad only in his underwear and clutching a teddy bear. When she discovers Keith missing, Day attempts to find him, assisted by a group of hippies led by Farr. Meanwhile, Keith looks for her. After a series of misadventures, both end up in a police station. Hearing of their parents' misfortune, all the children race to their defense, united at last. This was one of six unsuccessful scripts selected for Day by her ailing husband, producer Melcher, in the last years of his life (he died before the film's release). Melcher was widely reported to have done no work at all on these films, save for collecting his customary fee of $150,000 and choosing the scripts. Toward the end he had chronic diarrhea, a condition that may lead readers to an appropriate analogy.
