A well-crafted programmer which is set in the High Sierras at the close of the Civil War. Farrell is a former soldier who guns down the man who seduced his sister. He takes off with the comely Bennett and, before long, they are falling in love. Bennett isn't exceptionally wild, as the title suggests, but she does have a certain attractive tomboyish flair. The film includes some interesting techniques for scene transitions. Instead of the usual fade-out, fade-in or cut, WILD GIRL uses a processed shot which simulates the turning of a page. A nice touch for an otherwise ordinary picture. In a supporting role is Irving Pichel who, the same year, codirected THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME with Ernest B. Schoedsack (who in turn went on to codirect KING KONG with Merian C. Cooper the following year). Silent films had been made from the same story in 1914 (starring Jack Holt) and again in 1923.
