Who Done It? Reviews

The popular British TV comic Hill makes his screen debut as an ice-rink sweeper who wins a good sum of money and a bloodhound in a contest. He gives up his old profession and opens up his own detective service, getting more than he had bargained for when one case leads him into cold war intrigue involving the planned assassination of some British scientists. Lee is the woman who helps Hill in his battle against the enemy agents. There are some moments of good humor, and Hill's fans undoubtedly will enjoy this, but for the most part WHO DONE IT? is a mess. There are plenty of chases and car crashes substituting for humor, with more than the necessary number of corny jokes. Dearden does a lively job of directing, but the story is ultimately shallow, not very funny and for Hill fans only. This was the last of the Ealing comedies.
