White Lightning Reviews

Convicted of running moonshine whiskey, Reynolds is offered his release from prison if he will serve as an informer and help catch his one-time cohorts. Convinced that crooked sheriff Beatty has murdered his younger brother, a civil rights activist, Reynolds reluctantly agrees in order to bring the killer to justice. Assisted by fellow informant Clark, Reynolds infiltrates the organization and learns that the Beatty is the head of the mob. Along the way, Reynolds manages to steal Hopkins' girl friend Billingsley, get in a few fights, and participate in some amazing car chases. Generally regarded as the best of Reynolds "good ol' boy" films, with fine, sensitive performances by the leads and a wonderful supporting cast. The vastly inferior sequel, GATOR, was released in 1976.
