Way Out West Reviews

Laurel and Hardy's only western spoof, WAY OUT WEST, ranks among the best of their films, with more exuberant laughs crammed into its scant 65 minutes than can be found in a dozen modern comedies. With their faithful mule, the boys head into Brushwood Gulch to deliver a gold mine deed to their departed partner's daughter. But they get hopelessly lost, and make the mistake of asking bartender Mickey Finn (James Finlayson) for advice. Finn's scullery maid, Mary Roberts (Rosina Lawrence), is actually the woman they seek, but he deliberately steers them toward his wife, Lola Marcel (Sharon Lynn)--a brassy blonde who is so obviously not the right person that everyone can see she cries crocodile tears upon learning of her "father's" death. Everyone, that is, except Laurel and Hardy. Included is the song "Trail of the Lonesome Pine."
