Une Aussi Longue Absence Reviews

A moving, poignant film starring Valli as a lonely Parisian cafe owner who spots a humming tramp, Wilson, walking past her cafe. Valli becomes convinced that the man is her husband, whom she lost in the war 16 years before. She follows Wilson to his little shack by the Seine and learns that he has had amnesia since the war. Then she invites Wilson back to her cafe, where she tries to reawaken his memory. When she sees the deep scar on the back of his head, Valli knows deep down that he will never remember, but she is determined to spend the rest of her life trying to evoke his memories. This movie was winner of the Prix Louis Dellux and shared the Grand Prize at Cannes with Luis Bunuel's VIRIDIANA.
