Touchdown Reviews

Richard Arlen is Dan Curtis, a college football coach and former All-American who'll stop at nothing to bring his team victory. He loses everyone's respect after he sends an injured player into the fray--winning the game, but putting the young man in the hospital as a result. Dastardly Dan is later shown to have reformed, however, when he resists the temptation to make a lad with a brain concussion play in a crucial game. He forfeits victory on the field, but comes out on top in the "how to make friends and influence people" department. Comedic relief is provided by the ubiquitous Jack Oakie; J. Farrell MacDonald once again (THE SPIRIT OF NOTRE DAME) plays an old coach; the football clips include glimpses of the legendary Jim Thorpe, "Wrong Way" Roy Riegels, future "Tarzan" Bruce Bennett (Herman Brix), Howard Jones, Russ Saunders, and other gridiron stars and coaches; and the source material was a novel by former Knute Rockne staff member Francis Wallace.
