Uneven story that centers around a Swiss school designed to provide homes for the orphans of WW II. The children are represented in a realistic and convincing manner, depicting their various frustrations, desires, and longings. However, the love affair between two teachers from the school, Justin and Dahlbeck, softens the impact of the children's tribulations, without being all that interesting itself.
