The Thief of Paris Reviews

Known mainly for its charming look at Paris at the end of the 19th century, this Malle feature centers on the escapades of a young man who turns to thievery in order to get his vengeance. He discovers that he likes stealing so much he continues swiping expensive jewels until he becomes quite wealthy. Belmondo plays the young man tricked by his uncle out of a fortune, who then robs the jewels from the suitor of his cousin, Bujold, because he doesn't want to see her married to anyone else. Once this is done, he continues on his path of crime, using his flirtatious manner to full advantage. With growing political instability in France, Belmondo goes to England and is eventually joined by Bujold upon the death of her father. Lighthearted and unpretentious.
