The Texas Rangers are glorified in this classier-than-usual western, released during the Lone Star state's centennial celebration. MacMurray and Oakie are a couple of bandits who switch over to the side of the law, but are soon asked to bring in Nolan, a fellow gang member. The film earned an Oscar nomination for Best Sound. A sequel, THE TEXAS RANGERS RIDE AGAIN, followed in 1940. The picture was remade as THE STREETS OF LAREDO in 1949 with William Holden, Macdonald Carey, and William Bendix.
