The Sign of Venus Reviews

Another of the best-forgotten films Loren made in Italy before showing up in Hollywood. Here she plays second lead to Valeri, a young girl from the country who comes to Rome to stay with her uncle and his daughter, Loren. Loren is a gorgeous girl who attracts men constantly and without trying, to the point where it's quite a nuisance. Valeri has no such problems and badly wants them. She goes to a fortune teller who tells her that she was born under the sign of Venus and that she is therefore lucky in love. She is heartened by this news but her depression returns when she looks at the available men around her: bumbling car thief Sordi, selfish writer De Sica, aging photographer de Filippo, and her best hope, fireman Vallone. All of them manipulate her for their own ends as Sordi goes to jail, Vallone impregnates Loren, and De Sica runs off with the fortune teller. Disgusted by the whole thing, Valeri flees Rome for good. A film of little significance and less interest.
