The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw Reviews

After nearly forty years of concentrating on strong, virile male images, director Walsh did a complete about-face in this spoof on westerns. The result is strange, if not a bit fascinating. More plays a Londoner and recent heir to a gun producing company, which leads him out West in order to display his wares. He is hoodwinked into becoming town sheriff, an unlikely job for the cowardly More. But he manages all right, never losing control of his proper English manners. In fact he begins reforming the town into accepting some of these manners, such as settling down to afternoon tea instead of the usual whiskey. He also earns the respect of local Indians, who perform the task of keeping the town under control. In direct contrast to More, the female lead is a toughened Jayne Mansfield, who's a sure-fire shot and the eventual wedding partner of More. She even sings a few songs, though only lip-synching to the voice of Connie Frances.
