The Rose Bowl Story Reviews

Few trick plays are used in this standard football tale of a star quarterback, Steve Davis (Marshall Thompson), who falls in love with the pelt-draped Denny Burke (Vera Miles). He tries extra hard to impress her, believing that she is an heiress, although she's just putting on airs in a borrowed fur coat. After the coach's wife takes ill and Steve has a falling out with Denny, the QB begins to straighten up. Instead of putting his star image before team spirit, he concentrates on impressing his coach and his girl friend with sportsmanship. Natalie Wood is cast as Sally, Denny's laugh-getting little sister. In the previous year, Thompson appeared in THE BASKETBALL FIX as a star cager. Naturally, THE ROSE BOWL STORY includes an abundance of Rose Bowl stock footage and a cameo of the 1952 Rose Queen, Nancy Thorne.
