The Personality Kid Reviews

Slugger Ritzy McCarthy (Pat O'Brien) lets his name go to his head and quits the ring--the wedding ring, that is, skipping out on his wife, Joan (Glenda Farrell), to paint the town red with a flashy artist (Claire Dodd). When he discovers that Joan has engineered his success by contracting for him to box only weak opponents, McCarthy decides to dump her for good. Apparently the champ hasn't neglected his wife too much, however, since her announcement of pregnancy inspires him to redeem himself in the ring and at home. Although O'Brien was himself a top college fighter and former champs Mushy Callahan and Marvin Schechter appear as his opponents here, the film's many boxing scenes are poorly staged, with some obvious pulling of punches.
