The Ninth Guest Reviews

This is a nifty though predictable little mystery. Eight people are invited to a mysterious dinner party. No one knows who the host is. After everyone has been seated, the radio goes on and announces that the ninth guest has been killed and everyone else will be dead before the evening is through. With the house sealed shut everyone panics. Sure enough, guests start getting knocked off hourly until Tobin, Cook, and madman Albright are the only ones left. The suspense holds well under the well-paced direction, although by the time Cook, Tobin, and Albright are faced off the rest is highly predictable. The story also suffers from a lack of humor. Barnett has a few turns as a comic butler but it is a weak attempt and not well played.
