Gordon is out to ruin rival stable owner Davenport, thinking that then Davenport's niece, Hunt, will marry him. Davenport sees it coming, fakes his death, and wills his racehorse to Hunt and his partner, Jones. The horse is a constant loser until the pair discover that the horse can't run in the rail position. With this solved the horse wins the Santa Anita handicap.
