A Viennese attorney (Frank Morgan), who is defending his best friend after the man killed his adulterous wife, comes to suspect that his own wife is cheating on him. Paul Lukas, Nancy Carroll, Gloria Stuart. Directed by James Whale, who remade the film five years later as "Wives Under Suspicion."

This murder yarn has Morgan as a criminal lawyer defending a man for killing his wife during a fit of jealousy. In the meantime Morgan discovers that his own wife, Carroll, is unfaithful. Modestly budgeted at $260,000, the film features an intriguing script and is beautifully directed by James Whale, with a strikingly European look throughout. The performances are generally quite fine, with the courtroom scenes particular highlights. Remade by Whale as WIVES UNDER SUSPICION (1938).
