The Green Helmet Reviews

Made in Britain with MGM money, this predictable auto racing film revolves around an aging driver who is losing his nerve. The driver, Travers, begins racing under the sponsorship of a tire company owned by Begley and falls in love with the wealthy American's daughter (Walters), who begs him to quit the sport. Meanwhile, waiting in the wings is Travers' younger brother, Kelly, who's promised Mom he won't get behind a wheel until Travers retires. Hoping to prove he still has what it takes, Travers enters a 1,000-mile Italian event. Then his mechanic-navigator, James, is killed, and Kelly gets his big chance. Realistic racing scenes help enliven the dull script--but not much. Real-life pro auto racer Jack Brabham is also along for the ride.
