Tavi, a struggling artist, works at an old folks home in this sensitive portrayal of love and old age. He becomes close friends with Litvina, one of the elderly women at the home. Then he makes love to Rivlin, a young woman whose grandfather has died in the home. At first Litvina is hurt, but she comes to realize that Tavi needs the company of women of his own age, too. But Tavi in the meantime has decided that Litvina and the rest of the people at the home are more important to him than Rivlin.
