The Dark Reviews

Science-fiction/horror film has an alien that looks like a werewolf in blue jeans running around Los Angeles murdering people, either ripping the heads off its victims or burning them to a crisp with its laser vision. Thrown into this nightmare is a good cast headed by author Devane, television newscaster Crosby, and frustrated policeman Jaeckel. The three are all trying to solve the mystery of the murders. The answer, which tells us what, but not how or why, comes when Devane and Crosby are trapped by the creature in a deserted house. The cops ineffectually shoot at it with their conventional weapons, until suddenly the alien self-destructs into thin air, leaving the film open for a sequel. John (Bud) Cardos took over the direction from Tobe Hooper of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE fame just before the beginning of shooting. Lucky Hooper.
