The Butterfly Effect 2 Reviews

Reviewed By: Jeremy Wheeler

So how does one follow up a flick so largely split between the critical world and the movie-going audience such as The Butterfly Effect? Why, treat the premise as if it were a TV show, of course! Throw in new characters in a less ambitious plot and deliver enough of the very basics of the first film so as to tie the first two flicks together, and there's part two in a nutshell. For the folks that love to ridicule the first film, there's little here that compares to the savory torture that actor extraordinaire Ashton Kutcher previously endured. The worst thing to actually say about this installment is just how much of a jerk the main character comes off as, almost immediately after he endures his first time-shift freakout. It also doesn't help that lead Eric Lively is highly inconsistent in his character's behaviors -- a point that some may argue as a result of dimension traveling, but to others, it will no doubt just come off as downright sloppy. To the masses that enjoyed the first movie and are looking for a bit of the same, albeit in a much more easier to swallow package, this could be just what the straight-to-DVD gods ordered. All others will yawn at the movie's generic quality and half-hearted ending that puts a happy spin on the ridiculous alternate ending from the original.
