The Adventures of Milo and Otis Reviews

Of all the buddy movies ever made, MILO AND OTIS features one of the most unlikely pairs of friends--a cat and dog that befriend each other on a farm and eventually wander out into the not-so-friendly world. Not a single human being appears onscreen in this delightful live-action entry from Japan. It all starts when the kitten, Milo, decides to take a trip down the river in a box, with his faithful canine chum, Otis, following behind. But soon Otis loses track of his friend, who gets into many adventures. Based on a charming screenplay by Mark Saltzman, this clever children's film contains beautiful nature photography and moments of humor along with many impressive animal stunts. Surely it was no small feat to get bears and dogs, chickens and cats, pigs and cows to work together harmoniously. Shot from the animals' point of view and narrated by Dudley Moore, MILO AND OTIS contains some important messages about the responsibilites of friendship. Slow in spots, but a treat nevertheless.
