When not carrying on with famous actresses (Brigitte Bardot, Jane Fonda, Catherine Deneuve) or writing books about them, celebrity French director Roger Vadim manages to find some time to make films. With SURPRISE PARTY, released in France in 1983, Vadim explores the innocent lives of a group of teenagers who discover love amid the pressure of high school final exams. Vadim is better at this sort of thing than most Hollywood directors, but he still cannot be taken seriously. (In French; English subtitles.)
