Kicked out of the Texas Rangers because of his brother, Hale is allowed to pursue Barcroft and gang without any red tape to hold him back. This enables him to get his brother, Kennedy, out of a jam and make the territory safe in its attempt to gain statehood. For Hale's efforts the Rangers take him back and, in the process, he wins the affection of Christopher.
