Positively oozing Latin charm, Gilbert Roland is light years away from O. Henry's original "Cisco Kid," who, after all, was a mere Yankee. Roland was perhaps not the best of Hollywood's many Ciscos, but he certainly wasn't the worst and his six vehicles for Monogram remain pleasant if unspectacular examples of the B-Western genre. South of Monterey is arguably the best of the lot.
