Side Street Reviews

The epitome of Hollywood's Irish cliches, SIDE STREET is the tale of three brothers--Tom Moore, a kindly policeman; Matt Moore, a surgeon; and Owen Moore, a bootlegger known to his cronies by the alias Barney Muller, a name he uses to keep his illegal activities secret from his brothers. When Tom gets a promotion, he is assigned to a murder case involving the Muller gang. In the meantime, Tom's fiancee, Perry, is invited to a party at Muller's Manhattan home and overhears information that implicates Muller. With the help of Perry and Matt, Tom discovers that Muller is really an alias for his brother, Owen. Owen hires a hit man to kill Tom, unaware that he has just ordered his brother's death. A trap is set for Tom, but Owen interferes and tries to stop the killing. He, in turn, is shot and dies in his brother's arms. To save his parents from shame, Tom tells them that Owen went away on a long trip thereby preserving Owen's character. SIDE STREET is about as hokey as they come but still a pleasant piece of entertainment.
