Shadow of the Eagle Reviews

Catherine the Great's Russia serves as the setting for this costume drama, in which Greene is ordered by the Empress to kill her rival, Cortese (best known for her portrayal as the fading star in Francois Truffaut's DAY FOR NIGHT). But when Greene meets the intended victim he falls in love with her, much to the Empress' displeasure. The lovers are captured and threatened with execution. Some nifty heroics on Greene's part allow them to escape and find sanctuary in Switzerland. The action is well paced, with the cast turning in grand performances.
