Secret of the Andes Reviews

Reviewed By: Buzz McClain

The best that can be said about this clunker is that Secret of the Andes looks great. The Argentine scenery is appropriately exotic, the costumes are colorful and the youthful lead -- Camilla Belle -- has charming promise. But something in the script was lost in translation. There's no clearly defined villain, until someone with dark ideas appears at the end to serve as the obligatory victim to the children now in possession of "good" powers. Worse, the well-intended father, gamely played by David Keith, is painted as the bad guy for much of the film, which renders him beyond redemption, and Diana's objective is muddled in its focus. The youngest viewers will grow restless from the lack of action; kids ten and over might stay with it longer, but they may wander away once they realize there is no point to it all. The box art on the video would like you to believe there are similarities to Raiders of the Lost Ark and there is: John Rhys-Davies. But beyond that, forget about it.
