Nell Sanders (Pauline Stark) is a poor young woman working as a floor scrubber in a Lower East Side greasy spoon. When the owner's brother makes unwanted advances on her, her drunken boyfriend Jim (Joseph King) kills the man in a fight. Jim is sentenced to seven years in prison, while Nell is left alone and pregnant. She joins the Salvation Army and preaches against the evils of alcohol. Major Williams (Edward Langford) falls in love with Nell and asks for her hand in marriage. Jim returns from prison and Nell is torn between the two men. Her decision is aided when Jim decides to live a good Christian life and give up his drunken ways of the past.
