Power of the Press Reviews

Kruger plays a villainous big city publisher whose quest for power leads him to kill anyone who gets in his path, paying off gangsters to act as his henchmen. Tracy plays the honest managing editor (shades of THE FRONT PAGE), supported by his faithful secretary, Dickson, who eventually exposes the evil Kruger. The complicated plot is not given any help through the shaky and badly paced direction; the result is a picture that fails to develop many of the themes it poses. Not to be confused with Frank Capra's silent film of the same name, also a Columbia production, but sharing only the newspaper setting.
