Our Wife Reviews

A cheery romantic romp which stars Douglas as a composer-musician who is thrown into a state of depression when his recent marriage to Drew fails. His career suffers and he takes a cruise to cheer himself up. On board ship he meets Hussey, her father Coburn, and her brother Hubbard. It doesn't take Douglas long to fall for Hussey and regain his creative spark. He invites Hussey and her family to join him in his Long Island home, an offer they gladly accept. The newly inspired Douglas pens a "Concerto for Trumpet" which premiers for an enthusiastic crowd and features Douglas on trumpet (actually played by Mannie Klein). The concerto is a success and Douglas once again soars to fame. With his new-found popularity, however, comes a renewed interest from Drew who makes a desperate attempt to recapture his love. Faking a fall down a flight of stairs, she pretends to be paralyzed from the waist down in order to gain his sympathy. Her ruse is soon discovered by Hussey, who manages to keep Douglas for herself. While far from being a profound and original comedy, OUR WIFE does serve as a pleasing piece of entertainment that includes some competent performances and a lush musical score by Shuken.
