Ocean Drive Weekend Reviews

Brainless, boring, and technically incompetent, this alleged "comedy" is supposed to be set in the mid-1960s. Virtually plotless, the film follows several groups of college students who converge on Ocean Drive for a weekend of dancing, beer, and sex. Among the hopelessly stereotyped characters are the nice guy, the slob, a couple of nerds, the overweight-but-brilliant student, a suave ladies' man, a fraternity snob, a nice girl, a "loose" girl, and an uptight intellectual. OCEAN DRIVE WEEKEND is woefully unfunny and torturously tedious as it attempts to be a cross between ANIMAL HOUSE and PORKY'S. Long pauses between passages of mundane dialog are common as the amateur actors struggle to remember their lines. The ads for the film promise loads of great old rock 'n' roll tunes, but what they don't tell you is that most of them are sung by cast members or a wretched garage band called Smitty Flynn and the Rivieras.
