Neon Maniacs Reviews

This very silly little science-fiction/horror film concerns a bunch of cheap-looking monsters with guns that invade San Francisco. Where these monsters come from is anybody's guess since the filmmakers felt it unnecessary to provide an explanation, but they appear and slaughter some San Francisco teenagers. One girl (Leilani Sarelle) survives the attack, but the police refuse to believe that armed monsters have arrived to wreak havoc. Luckily, her boy friend (Allan Hayes) believes her fantastic tale and they set out to track down the monsters. This one is amateur-hour all the way. From the silly costumes to the incompetent acting, NEON MANIACS must have been somebody's idea of a joke. Director Joseph Mangine tries hard to evoke the science- fiction and horror films of the 1950s, but he fails at every turn. For the undiscriminating there is a bit of quirky charm to the whole affair, but aside from a precious few laughs, most of the film is difficult to sit through.
