What does a filmmaker do when Bill Murray simply doesn't fit into the budget? Get a reasonable clone as an acceptable alternative, which is exactly what the "brains" behind MOVING VIOLATIONS have done. Casting Bill's brother John must have seemed like a real coup, for the younger Murray looks, struts, and mouths off almost exactly like his older sibling. What's missing is the talent behind this patented brand of modern comedy. The meager story has Dana Cannon (Murray) leading a group of misfits (beginning to sound familiar?) who rebel against some hard-nosed authorities. The setting is traffic school. Dana and his merry band must square off against Deputy Halik (James Keach) and his female sidekick, Morris (Lisa Hart Carroll), two cops determined that this bunch will never drive again. Jam-packed with car smash-ups, predictable situations, and a few stock characters, MOVING VIOLATIONS is nothing more than the cinematic equivalent of a connect-the-dots puzzle.
