Marianne Reviews

Davies stars as a French girl in love with an American doughboy, but she can't run off with him because she is betrothed to a French soldier. When the betrothed turns up blind, and takes to the priesthood, Davies is free to follow her American. Davies managed a believable performance, even faking a French accent. Other performers played well off Davies. Songs include: "When I See My Sugar," "Marianne," "Oo-La-La" (Roy Turk, Fred Ahlert), "Hang On To Me," "Just You, Just Me" (Raymond Klages, Jesse Greer), and "Blondy" (Arthur Freed, Nacio Herb Brown). A silent version of the film also was shot with Oscar Shaw, Robert Castle, Robert Ames, and Mack Swain featured in roles played in the sound version by Gray, Baxter, Edwards, and Edeson.
