Man Behind the Mask Reviews

Baxter and Williams attend a masked ball, intending to elope at the night's end. Their plans are ruined by a madman who attacks the couple and takes Baxter hostage. The kidnaper takes on Williams' identity, using this guise to steal the golden Shield of Kahm (one of those mysterious icons found only in museums and movies) from Baxter's father. Williams and Baxter's father go looking for the kidnaper, and after Baxter's last-minute rescue by authorities, the madman is revealed to be a crazed astronomer. This is pretty hokey stuff, but the spirited direction (in an early effort from the director of THE RED SHOES and PEEPING TOM) manages to make this better than the material probably deserved.
